Investigators say a 38-year-old woman died and a 42-year-old woman was injured in an early-morning shooting in the Town of Conklin.

According to New York State Police, Alison Salisbury of Binghamton was fatally wounded in the incident, which was reported around 12:20 a.m. Friday.

Shannon Brooks of Conklin was wounded in the hand. She was treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and was released.

Police say the shooting happened at an apartment house at 1205 Conklin Road. Troopers found the wounded women in the parking lot of the building. Salisbury was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspected shooter was taken into custody by a Binghamton police officer after an alert was issued to Broome County law enforcement agencies.

45-year-old Lance Johnson of Binghamton has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.
