Authorities say 37-year-old Amie Lewis died as a result of her injuries Wednesday morning.

Investigators say a Chenango County man who is believed to have been the driver of the vehicle that struck Lewis now will face more serious charges.

Detectives arrested 45-year-old Matthew Wood of Greene on Monday. He was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with serious physical injury.

Police say Lewis was hit by a vehicle at Main and Murray streets shortly before 10 p.m. Friday. She was struck by a westbound vehicle that continued on Main Street without stopping.

Lewis sustained head and internal injuries. When police announced Wood's arrest on Monday, Lewis was reported to be in critical condition.

Wood was arraigned in Binghamton city court and sent to Broome County Jail.

Investigators say the district attorney's office will consider upgrading the charge facing Wood.
