Binghamton University to Open Elder Care Clinic in JC

A Johnson City health clinic serving older residents is being planned by Binghamton University and Lourdes Hospital.

The health facility will be constructed at the corner of Jennison and Corliss Avenues, just south of Main Street.

University President Harvey Stenger said the health center will serve walk-in patients as well as people with appointments.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Stenger said the clinic will serve as an alternative to the hospital care people might otherwise seek.

An existing structure that once housed medical offices now wraps around a two-story house at the Jennison Avenue site.

Stenger expects demolition work to start soon. The property is located north of the future home of the Decker School of Nursing.

Stenger said supervised nursing school students will be able to get some training by assisting at the clinic.

The planned facility will be an engineered building with components designed and manufactured for the clinic.

Stenger said the facility is expected to open in the summer of next year.
