Binghamton University Graduate is an Impeachment Manager
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the first Binghamton University graduate to serve in Congress, is in the spotlight during President Donald Trump's impeachment trial.
Jeffries is one of the impeachment managers chosen by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The 49-year-old Brooklyn native graduated from Binghamton University with a political science degree in 1992.
Jeffries has represented parts of Brooklyn and Queens in Congress for seven years.
Jeffries has spoken fondly of his time at Binghamton. During one speech, he said students received "an elite college education at an affordable price."
Before being elected to Congress, Jeffries worked as an attorney for CBS and served in the New York State Assembly.
Jeffries was interrupted by a protester Wednesday evening as he spoke during the Senate impeachment trial.
After the person was escorted outside, Jeffries responded: "And the scripture says for the Lord loves justice and will not abandon his faithful ones."
According to a profile in The New York Times, Jeffries is "as likely to quote from the Bible as he is from 1990s hip-hop lyrics."
That story also noted that Jeffries defended CBS in litigation that followed Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.
