Binghamton University Goes Medieval With Rare Addition
Binghamton University is “getting all medieval” and the public is invited to participate.
A 16th-century music manuscript of Gregorian Chant entitled the “Gradual of La Crocetta” is being permanently added to the Special collections of the Bartle Library.
The Italian manuscript includes a Requiem Mass and Mass and Vespers chants. It was written and decorated after the founding of a convent of Dominican nuns in Florence in 1511 and is in its original binding.
The work is expected to be studied by undergraduate and graduate students from a number of departments including music, English, classics, history and art history.
