A 17-year-old boy will be heading to prison for trying to kill a man on a Johnson City street.

Dyjuwan Gadson of Binghamton was sentenced to 10 years June 7 in Broome County Court for an attempted murder charge.

Gadson was 16 at the time of the September 16 shooting near the Goodwill Theatre on Willow Street. He was taken into custody minutes later a short distance from the scene.

A woman who was sitting in a parked sport utility vehicle was wounded in the incident but she was not the intended target.

Gadson pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder on February 25.

Investigators said Gadson wanted to hit 18-year-old Xavier Melendez. Three days after the shooting, Melendez was arrested by police.

Melendez was charged with weapon possession, drug possession and evidence tampering.
