Binghamton Teen Arrested in Johnson City School Threat
A 15-year-old Binghamton resident faces a felony charge after a threat was made regarding a possible shooting at Johnson City High School.
Authorities say the boy initially was interviewed at his home by Johnson City police detectives early Tuesday morning. He then was taken to the village police station for further questioning.
The youth - who is not a public school student - has been charged with making a terroristic threat.
Detectives say police were notified about 20 minutes after a threatening message was posted on Snapchat late Monday night. Several calls were made as the one-line threat spread quickly across social media.
An investigator says the boy seemed "a little shocked" when police showed up at his home to question him.
Investigators searched the residence and found no weapons. They confiscated two cell phones.
Police noted following the original threat, someone else posted a social media message suggesting that a specific Johnson City student "would be responsible." That lead was investigated and the information was not substantiated.
The boy arrested in connection with the threat was released to a parent pending action by Broome County Family Court.
