Construction for the next Broome County Taco Bell restaurant is now underway.

The job of building the new business at 1243 Upper Front Street in the town of Chenango began less than two weeks after demolition crews cleared the site.

An abandoned Speedway convenience store and gas station was torn down to make way for the planned restaurant.

Speedway operated at the site for a short time. Before that, the store and gas station had been owned by Hess.

Haza Bell of Northeast received needed town approvals for the project nearly a year ago. The developers said they would ensure that what remains of a small pet cemetery on the site just east of Interstate 81 would not be touched during the construction.

Josh Paduana, project manager for Central Pillar Group, said crews now are working on the foundation and framing for the Taco Bell restaurant.

Paduana told WNBF News construction of the building should start within the next two weeks

Paduana said if the weather cooperates, the new Taco Bell could be ready to open by the end of July.
