Binghamton Student Housing Project Work Underway

Construction crews are busy on another planned student housing complex in downtown Binghamton.

The University Lofts project has been in the works for years in the former Midtown Mall property at Court and Chenango streets.

Developer Lawrence Gladstone's plans sustained a setback when the interior of the sprawling project was destroyed by a December 2010 fire.

The development firm Stellar 83 Court LLC is moving forward with a revamped complex that's expected to house 76 units with 180 bedrooms for students.

The project as now envisioned could include commercial space on the street level.

There's no word when the project may be completed.
