Binghamton Sex Offender Pleads Guilty to Possessing Child Porn
Federal prosecutors say a Binghamton sex offender who kept hundreds of images of child pornography on electronic devices could face 40 years in federal prison.
63-year-old James O’Brien pleaded guilty to possession and transportation of child pornography on over a dozen cell phones between June of 2017 and May of last year.
Prosecutors say O’Brien admitted to authorities that he kept changing his cell phone accounts as he accumulated images of children engaged in sexual acts since he knew it was illegal.
The man had previously been convicted in 2008 of possessing a sexual performance of a child and was registered as a Level One Sex Offender in New York State.
O’Brien was arrested following a search of his Henry Street home in May of last year after authorities were tipped off online about illegal activity involving uploads of child pornography.
He is to be sentenced in February.
