Police units flooded the area of State and Court streets after the incident was reported just after 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Initial reports indicated a man had been stabbed and had lost a significant amount of blood. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. His condition was not known.

Police officers used yellow "crime scene" tape to secure a large area near the Key Bank building on the northeast corner of Court and State. Another area was taped off at State and Henry streets near the city-owned parking garage.

A trail of blood was observed on Court Street near the Green Man Park. Detectives were on the scene for about two hours collecting evidence as they started their investigation.
