Binghamton Named A “Sustainable Community”

The city of Binghamton has been designated a "sustainable community" by the federal government.

City officials say the action by the Department of Housing and Urban Development will give Binghamton preference for some federal grant programs.

The sustainable designation was given after the city won a community challenge planning grant two years ago.

Binghamton officials say only one other community in New York state has received the designation from the federal government.
