The trial of a Binghamton man accused of murdering a man and wounding another in his Mozart Street home last August is underway.

Prosecutors say 27 year old Nicholas Chappell shot and killed 23 year old Daniel Sanborn as Sanborn accompanied Chappell’s former roommate, 26 year old Jordan Doolittle to the apartment to retrieve belongings.  The defense says the shooting happened during a burglary and was justified.

Doolittle was wounded in the arm but reportedly subdued Chappell until authorities arrived.

The opening statements in the trial were given April 10.
