Residents of Binghamton's South Side are wondering what Mirabito will do with its existing Vestal Avenue convenience store now that a new unit has started operations a few blocks away.

The store in the Number 5 Commons opened for business early Monday morning.

Mirabito's smaller shop at the corner of the Vestal Avenue and Mitchell Avenue is smaller than the newly-constructed store to the east.

Some people in the neighborhood have speculated that Mirabito will shut down the existing store now that the more spacious location with a new, more modern design is open.

For now, both locations will operate despite their close proximity. Responding to an inquiry from WNBF News, a Mirabito spokewoman wrote in an email that "there are no immediate plans to close the store on Vestal Avenue."

Mirabito has a lease for the property, which Broome County records indicate is owned by a Vestal man.
