It may still be summer but the candidates running for Binghamton mayor had a chance to discuss their vision for the city during a spirited debate on News Radio WNBF.

Incumbent Republican Jared Kraham and Democratic challenger Miles Burnett answered questions about several key issues facing Binghamton during Thursday morning's broadcast.

The debate occurred less than 48 hours after it was scheduled on the live WNBF talk show. Burnett was in the studio and Kraham called into the program on Tuesday.

Kraham suggested the candidates engage in an on-air discussion by the end of the week. The host suggested a time Thursday and each candidate quickly agreed.

The mayor and his opponent talked about what the city can do to assist those who are homeless and what steps can be taken to deal with abandoned buildings.

The candidates also discussed the eminent domain case involving the Binghamton Plaza and the city's "Blue Bag" trash collection program.

Both Kraham and Burnett have agreed to a second live joint appearance on WNBF in October before the start of early voting.

This year, early voting will be conducted from October 25 to November 2. Election Day is November 4.
