Authorities say a standoff in Delaware County ended when a Binghamton man was fatally shot after he aimed weapons at police.

According to New York State Police, the man who was killed was tentatively identified as 34-year-old Clint Stevens.

Troopers were sent to a house on Route 8 in the town of Deposit around 2 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a possible burglary in progress.

Investigators say a man inside the residence pointed a long gun in the direction of a trooper.

Police determined Stevens was alone in the house, which is owned by his parents.

Negotiators were called after troopers observed Stevens with two long guns. One was pointed at his torso and another was pointed outward.

Police say Stevens acknowledged he had been using methamphetamine. At one point, negotiators believed he was prepared to surrender but he instead said he was going to use more of the drug.

According to investigators, Stevens fired two rounds at an armored police vehicle shortly after 7:30 p.m. One of the rounds struck the vehicle.

Minutes later, the man suddenly emerged from the residence. Authorities say when he aimed a rifle and handgun at troopers, he was shot and killed.
