A Broome County jury has found a man guilty of attempted assault in connection with a violent domestic dispute in Binghamton.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Saifur Abussalam was convicted Wednesday.

Authorities say Abussalam was arrested by Binghamton police July 30 at 133 East Frederick Street following an attack on another person. He was indicted by a grand jury in September.

Officials say Abussalam was convicted of attempting to cause serious physical injury to the victim with a rock and a golf club. The attack left the other person with a collapsed lung, broken ribs and a fractured orbital bone.

District Attorney Stephen Cornwell in a statement said Abussalam's "barbaric behavior deserves nothing less than the maximum sentence in state prison."

Sentencing has been for August 10. Abussalam faces a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
