Binghamton Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Deli Shooting
Police have arrested a suspect after a man was shot a few blocks from Binghamton's Cheri Lindsey Park where a "night out" against crime was about to get underway.
According to Mayor Jared Kraham, 38-year-old Carheem Felton of Binghamton has been charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
City police were sent to Northside Deli & Grocery at 511 Chenango Street around 4 p.m. Tuesday after people in the neighborhood heard two gunshots.
When officers arrived, they found a man had been wounded once in an arm. The man - whose name was not released - was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City by a Binghamton fire department ambulance. Authorities would not discuss his condition or the extent of his injuries.
Kraham said in a post on Twitter Tuesday evening that police officers "stopped a vehicle matching the suspect's description" while responding to the call. He did not indicate where the stop occurred.
According to the mayor, police recovered a "ghost gun" believed to have been used in the shooting.
Kraham did not provide any other details about the shooting, which happened about one hour before a "National Night Out" event was scheduled to start at the nearby city park.
