Binghamton Man Accused of Stealing $3,000 From Restaurant
An employee of a Broome County restaurant has been accused of taking thousands of dollars from the business.
Authorities say 48-year-old Jerome Austin of Binghamton was arrested Tuesday by the Broome County Sheriff's Office detective division.
Austin was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony. He also was charged with second-degree falsifying business records, a misdemeanor.
Investigators say Austin was accused of making false return and refund transactions totaling more than $3,000. The activity allegedly happened during a three-month period while Austin was working for a restaurant in the town of Dickinson.
Austin was processed on the charges and was being held at Broome County Jail to await arraignment.
A news release from the sheriff's office did not identify the restaurant where Austin had worked.
