An inmate at Broome County Jail faces a felony assault charge in connection with an attack that resulted in serious injuries to another inmate.

Authorities say 35-year-old Matthew Barrows of Binghamton was charged with second-degree assault. He was arrested Wednesday.

Jail officials say the incident happened August 15. They did not identify the other inmate or describe the nature of the injuries he sustained.

No information was released on the attack or whether any weapon was used.
