Gunshots Strike Vehicle and Homes in Binghamton
Binghamton police detectives say no arrests have been made in connection with an Easter weekend shooting incident in a city neighborhood.
Officers were sent to the area of 33 Doubleday Street on the North Side after people heard several gunshots around 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
Residents told WNBF News they believed as many as eight shots were fired before three juveniles ran from the neighborhood.
According to a police department news release issued Monday afternoon, officers found several spent handgun caliber shell casings in the yards and driveways between 31 and 33 Doubleday Street.
The police investigation has determined "multiple suspects fired rounds at a passing vehicle on Doubleday Street." The vehicle and "multiple residences were struck by gunfire."
Detectives said it appeared to have been a "targeted act of violence." No injuries have been reported as a result of the shooting.
Binghamton police officers were assisted by state troopers and Broome County sheriff's deputies in searching the area after the incident.
Police detained one person who was found at a residence on Eldredge Street, about a block from where the shooting incident occurred. It was not known whether he is considered a suspect.
People with information about the case may contact the Binghamton police detective bureau at (607) 772-7080.
