The Binghamton Bearcats softball team went 2-3 on their season-opening weekend trip to Georgia.  Freshman Kate Richard had a standout debut as a Bearcat going 8-17 at the plate and driving in eight runs in five games played.  She also scored five runs.

Her .471 batting average included three multiple-hit games.  For her efforts Richard earned dual honors from the America East Conference. She has been named America East Player and Rookie of the Week.  The Bearcat infielder becomes the first Binghamton softball player to earn combined player and rookie of the week honors since the 2010 season when Jessica Phillips earned the honors.

Richard and her Binghamton teammates will next be in action when they travel to Arizona State for five games from February 27 - March 1.
