Binghamton Families, Hockey Players Skating at Rec Park Ice Rink
The new ice skating facility at Recreation Park on Binghamton's West Side is proving to be popular with city residents.
The 90-foot by 45-foot rink was constructed last year. It opened for use in December.
During a recent sunny but cold afternoon, skaters of all ages were enjoying the facility.
A woman who lives nearby was skating with her husband and two young sons. She said they've made several visits to the rink over the past few weeks.
She was pleased a larger permanent facility was built to replace a temporary small rink that was erected at the park a couple of years ago.
The city spent about $390,000 to construct the rink.
Patrick McGinnis, Binghamton parks and recreation commissioner, declined to comment about the operation of the skating facility.
