Police officers and firefighters were sent to the Susquehanna River April 28 following a report that a man may have jumped from a Binghamton bridge.

A person reported seeing a man holding on to a railing of the State Street bridge shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Authorities received no calls from anyone indicating the man actually plunged into the river.

Police and fire department units were dispatched to the Washington Street bridge in an effort to determine whether there were any signs of someone in the water.

Two small boats - each with two firefighters - were put into the river to conduct a search up to the city line.

City police later received a report the man was observed going back over the rail and returning safely to the bridge.
