DOWNTOWN BINGHAMTON DISPUTE: Man Slashed on Court Street
Binghamton police are investigating a downtown disturbance that resulted in injuries to one person.
Several people reported a dispute involving two men in the area of Court Street and Commercial Alley around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Chairs set up on the sidewalk for outdoor dining were thrown around near Maryam's Mart and Saké-Tumi restaurant.
The first officers on the scene observed people running north from the area down Commercial Alley. A significant amount of blood was noticed on the sidewalk.
Those involved in the altercation were no longer around when police arrived on Court Street. Several minutes later, police and medics were sent to the nearby Metrocenter parking lot to assist an injured person.
The man was found on the north side of the office building west of State Street. He apparently had sustained a hand laceration.
The man was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment.
Police on Court Street and at the Metrocenter were unable to discuss any details about the disturbance or whether any suspects had been located.
Yellow crime scene tape sealed off sections of Court Street and the Metrocenter property as police searched for evidence.
Late Wednesday night, Mayor Jared Kraham said it appeared a man had been struck by a bottle during the disturbance. He said the man would not cooperate with police and "did not make a complaint."
This story was updated to include information provided by Mayor Kraham.
