A downtown Binghamton hotel is adding an addition to provide more flexibility for catered events.

Construction work at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Water Street is underway.

General manager William Nolan says the 2500-square-foot addition will more than double the space of the hotel's pre-function area.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of January.

Nolan says the construction won't interfere with scheduled events at the hotel.

LED lighting soon will be installed on the exterior of the DoubleTree. Nolan says the new lights will give the hotel a "much more dramatic look" at night. The lighting should be in place within a few weeks.

The Binghamton Riverwalk Hotel became a DoubleTree by Hilton last May. The property was acquired by Alfred Weissman Real Estate of Westchester County nearly three years ago.
