The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier has announced its executive director's resignation, less than two-and-a-half years after she took the position.

According to a statement released by the center's board of directors late Wednesday, Abbey Hendrickson will leave the children's museum next month.

Hendrickson began work as executive director in December 2016. She succeeded Margaret "Pokey" Crocker, who retired after 27 years in the post.

The Discovery Center statement said Hendrickson's resignation will be effective June 21.

The statement did not provide information about Hendickson's plans and she was not available to comment.

The statement said Hendrickson and the center's directors "completed a new strategic plan for the museum. It also indicated the pre-school program was expanded and several new exhibits were completed during her time with the center.

Discovery Center board president Erik Jones said a search will be launched to find a new executive director.

The Discovery Center is located on Morgan Road on Binghamton's South Side.
