An Ithaca consulting firm has been hired to put together a master plan for the downtown neighborhood surrounding Binghamton's baseball stadium.

The economic benefits to the area around the Henry Street complex that some stadium supporters had expected have not materialized.

Whitham Planning and Design will be paid $90,000 to develop a "Stadium District" plan.

The goal of the project is to determine what might be done to support sustainable economic growth in the neighborhood.

Sections of Henry, Pine and Court streets have residential and commercial buildings that are in poor condition.

The city has been awarded $50,000 in state funding to help pay for the Stadium District planning work.

Surveys and community meetings are expected to be part of the process to develop a master plan.
