A Binghamton man was sent to jail after he was accused of taking more than $9,000 for a contracting job and failing to do the work promised.

According to the Broome County District Attorney's Office, 50-year-old Darl Ellis has been charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony.

Ellis was arraigned in Binghamton city court and ordered held in Broome County Jail.

Ellis allegedly accepted the money but failed to complete the contract and refused to reimburse the customer.

Officials said Ellis Contracting also is being investigated for failing to complete contracts worth more than $100,000.
