On August 26th, 2025, an announcement was made that the City of Binghamton had received 55 project proposals for the Clinton Street neighborhood through the Downtown  Revitalization Initiative from Binghamton Mayor Jared M. Kraham.

The 55 projects total just under $119 million in response to its public call. Binghamton was named the Southern Tier winner of New York State’s DRI in February 2025, securing a $10 million grant award to revitalize Clinton Street.

According to the announcement from Mayor Kraham, the proposed projects included hundreds of housing units on vacant land, the rehabilitation of vacant and historic buildings into new housing and commercial spaces, improvements and expansions of existing small businesses, creation of community spaces, expansion of youth programming opportunities, and installation of new public art.

Earlier this summer, we called on the public to bring forward their ideas for Clinton Street’s revitalization, and the response has been incredible. We received a surge of interest from business owners, developers, non-profits, and other stakeholders representing tens of millions of dollars in private investment and a growing grassroots movement to reimagine Clinton Street. It’s an exciting time for the First Ward. - City of Binghamton Mayor Jared M. Kraham

Next up, the project proposals will be under review from the City of Binghamton's  Local Planning Committee. The committee's input, along with the public, will recommend a slate of projects to the State for funding consideration.

LPC meetings are held at the First Ward Senior Center and are open to the public.
