Binghamton Church Moving to Former Weis Supermarket Site
Worship services will soon be held in a complex that was home to a Binghamton grocery store and other businesses.
City Church will be moving from its downtown site to a large multipurpose facility at 285 Main Street on the city's West Side.
The church acquired the site between Mathews Street and Crestmont Road from Binghamton Giant Markets for $1.5 million four years ago.
The site for many years was anchored by a Giant supermarket, which later was rebranded as a Weis store. Weis closed the location in 2014. Other businesses at the site had included a Hollywood Video shop and a Chinese restaurant.
The process of renovating the property has taken longer than originally anticipated. City Church leaders had hoped construction at the site would start in 2022 but it didn't get underway until last year.
Pastor Joseph Green on Friday told WNBF News he and church members are excited as they prepare for a "grand opening" of the new facility.
Construction workers remain busy completing some of the finishing touches on the 50,000-square-foot complex.
The facility includes large worship area, classrooms, offices and spaces for various church programs.
Green said paving of the parking lot off Main Street is scheduled to occur next week.
The dedication service for the new City Church campus is scheduled for Sunday, September 7 at 11 a.m.
