Binghamton Boy “Critical” After Being Struck by SUV
An 11-year-old child who was hit by a vehicle as he walked to school in Binghamton remained hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities said Jariah Durgala was struck by a sport utility vehicle as he was crossing a busy highway around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday.
The boy was hit as he crossed the Brandywine Highway at Frederick Street with a friend. The other child was not hurt.
According to New York State Police, the incident occurred in an active work zone.
Investigators said Jariah was transported from the scene to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. He later was flown by helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Jariah reportedly is in the sixth grade at East Middle School at 167 East Frederick Street.
Police officials did not provide details about the incident but they said no tickets had been issued as of Wednesday morning.
