The UMBC Retrievers downed the Binghamton Bearcats 9-7 May 3 at BU's Varsity Field to complete a sweep of the America East Conference series.

The win puts UMBC's record in conference play at 10-8 while the Bearcats drop to 6-11.  BU also falls two games out of a playoff spot with six games to go on the regular season conference schedule.

Binghamnton travels to Orono, Maine to face the Black Bears this weekend and then will close out the regular season by hosting Stony Brook the following weekend.

The Retrievers put up four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead.  The Bearcats countered with five runs in the seventh inning but ended up falling short.  Shortstop Brendan Skidmore ripped a three-run home run in that inning and senior Brian Ruby from Maine-Endwell High School drove in a run with a single in that rally as well.

Next up the Bearcats host Siena at 3:00 p.m. May 5 in a non-conference game at Varsity Field.

In the latest America East standings Stony Brook is on top of the pack at 13-4 followed by UMass Lowell at 10-7.
