Binghamton and Owego Get Federal Funds to Hire Law Enforcement Officers
The City of Binghamton and Village of Owego are getting federal funds to hire law enforcement professionals for community policing programs.
The Department of Justice this week announced over $1.6 million dollars in funding for Northern District of New York police agencies. Binghamton is getting $25,000 while the Owego Police Department is getting 797,815 dollars.
D.O.J. officials say nearly 400-million dollars in grant funding through the Community Oriented Policing Services or “COPS” Hiring Program is going to 596 law enforcement agencies across the nation.
The funds are expected to be used in the hiring of 2,732 additional full-time law enforcement professionals.
