Binghamton Alternate Side Parking Rules Extended
The City of Binghamton's winter parking regulations won't expire on schedule this year.
Mayor Richard David Tuesday afternoon announced the alternate side parking rules have been extended until Friday, March 17 at 5 p.m.
The rules typically end on March 15. But because of the late-season snowstorm, the mayor chose to extend the regulations for two days to assist crews plowing the city's streets.
According to the mayor's office, vehicle owners are strongly encouraged to move cars off streets into driveways or lots at city parks.
David declared a "general state of emergency" Tuesday morning. People were urged to stay off Binghamton streets except for essential or emergency travel.
On Monday night, the mayor announced he was closing all "non-critical" city government offices for Tuesday because of the impending storm.
Designated "critical personnel" were advised to report to their jobs as usual.
The city is expected to resume regular government operations on Wednesday.
