When the Johnson City Wildcats take the field this afternoon against Oneonta they will really be home. Today at 1:30 the Wildcats will play their first game on their new multi-million dollar football field.  For years they had played at Green Field off Harry L. Drive but the flood of 2011 caused extensive damage to the field and bleachers forcing the Wildcats to play at Binghamton's Alumni Stadium.

Now with their new artificial turf field located adjacent to the high school they hope to build their tradition again.  The field which also has lights to accommodate night games is part of a two-phase $17.8 million capital building project for the Johnson City School District.  Other improvements include: refurbishing of the high school gym, concession stands for the new stadium and an upgrade to the science lab and science classrooms.
