New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (D-Endwell) says money is going to the Binghamton City School District, Binghamton Bulldogs basketball team and the Binghamton YMCA to offer programs to help children stay out of trouble.

The Endwell Democrat says $250,000 has been secured through the State Office of Children and Family Services for after school and other programs specifically aimed at fighting gun violence.

The City School District is getting $100,000 to hire two youth advocates to work with students in the middle and high schools.

The Binghamton Bulldogs organization and the YMCA will receive $75,000 each for after-school sports, summer clinics and weekend and evening community events.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar was among those praising the incentives saying the majority of times he got into trouble as a kid was when he had nothing to do.

The funding is part of a statewide effort to combat gun violence.
