$94 Million Binghamton Apartment Renovation Project Begins
Construction work is underway to modernize a troubled Binghamton apartment complex.
Vesta Corporation of Connecticut acquired the 256-unit Town and Country Apartments on the city's North Side last November.
All of the apartments in the complex near the Binghamton Plaza will be renovated in the $94 million project.
Conditions at the Town and Country property have been allowed to deteriorate over the past several years.
In July 2019, city officials announced ambitious plans to make repairs and modernize the place. The Boston-based developer that was expected to take over the property did not pursue the project.
Vesta is preparing to replace the flooring, windows and appliances in all of the apartments at the complex. New energy-efficient heating and air conditioning systems will be installed in each building.
Joshua Greenblatt, Vesta executive vice president, told WNBF News "a little less than half" of the apartments at Town and Country are currently occupied.
Greenblatt said contracts now are going through the buildings doing abatement work. Then they'll start renovating individual apartments. He expects the project will take about three years to complete.
