Police say several girls viciously punched, kicked and bit a man and his adult daughter on a Binghamton street after he said "hello" to them.

Authorities say as many as seven girls were involved in the attack in the city's First Ward. They say it occurred near 251 Oak Street around 9 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say the 76-year-old man greeted the girls as he unloaded a parked car. The youths became "verbally abusive" to the man and his 50-year-old daughter.

Police say the girls struck and knocked down the man and woman causing lacerations, bruising, swelling, abrasions a bite wound and internal trauma.

The man was admitted to Lourdes Hospital with serious injuries. The woman was treated at the scene by medics.

Officers identified four girls - ages 12 through 15 - as possible suspects. No charges have yet been filed.

A woman on Sunday posted a description of the attack on Facebook indicating the girls had injured her mother and grandfather. She wrote that the "girls thought it was 'cool' to do this to my family and record it."
