The investigation is continuing into an armed standoff that lasted through the morning of June 7 in Newark Valley.

There were no injuries following a report of a domestic incident at around 4:30 that escalated into an hours-long standoff between a man and law enforcement.

Tioga County Sheriff's Deputies were called on a report of a firearm discharged on Rock Street in Newark Valley.

They were able to safely remove an elderly woman from the home.

A 38 year old man remained in the residence and had reportedly made threats to harm himself. Authorities say they knew there was at least one weapon in the home.

Deputies closed Rock Road and notified residents and the Newark Valley School District.

Tioga County Sheriff's officials and New York State Police continued to try to negotiate with the man before he gave in late in the morning.  Six hours after the initial call, the man surrendered.

His name has not been released.
