February 11 is National 2-1-1 Day and the United Way is reminding residents that a simple call connects to a wide range of services in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Tioga and Otsego Counties 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, year-round.

The Susquehanna River Region 2-1-1 call center handles thousands of inquiries every year but officials say many people remain unaware of the service, which previously had been known as “First Call for Help.” In 2018, the regional call center received over 36-thousand service requests and more than 10-thousand visits to the website.

Information about services in the region can also be found online by going to www.helpme211.org.

Right now, one of the most popular requests is for free tax preparation services that are available to eligible Broome County residents through the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program.
