New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is looking to make the owners of vacant properties accountable for upkeep of the structures and land.

A proposed bill called the Abandoned Property Neighborhood Relief Act or the Zombie Kill Bill targets so-called zombie properties and would force mortgage holders, including banks that have foreclosed on properties, to maintain the locations until the foreclosure is final.

Broome County has over 300 zombie properties.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo is a co-sponsor of the Zombie Kill bill and says she believes the measure will be approved in the House but the future of the bill is unclear in the Senate as the Legislative session winds down.
