October 29th is World Stroke Day.  The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association urge everyone to recognize the common warning signs of stroke.  Immediate action and treatment for victims can often greatly lessen the effects of stroke.

The letters F.A.S.T can help people remember signs of stroke.

"F" stands for face...if one side droops there is a distinct likelihood that a stroke is occurring.

"A" stands for arm...arm weakness.  Look for any sign of weakness in strength or the ability to move and lift an arm.

"S"  stands for speech. Difficulty in speaking or slurred speech is another indication of a stroke occurring.

"T"  means time...time to call 911.

Stroke is the second-leading cause of death in the world and a leading cause of disability.  The American Stroke Association reminds the public to act quickly if someone you know or encounter exhibits any signs of stroke.
