Olympic Champion and one of the world's greatest distance runners ever is the featured speaker at Monday's 14th Annual Celebrating Women's Athletics Luncheon at the Events Center at Binghamton University. Joan Benoit Samuelson won Olympic gold in 1984 in Los Angeles becoming the first women's marathon champion. She captured two Boston Marathon championships in 1979 and 1983. She was inducted into the National Distance Running Hall of Fame in 1998.

The Celebrating Women's Athletics Luncheon is hosted by the Binghamton Bearcats Athletics Association and sponsorebd by M & T Bank. Since 2006 the Celebrating Women's Athletics Luncheon has raised over $450,000 for women's athletic scholarships. In 2018 ten scholarships were awarded from proceeds raised by the event. This year's luncheon is a complete sellout with close to 800 people expected to attend.
