New York State Police are investigating the death of a worker at an Oneonta business that happened early Thursday, February 4.

Troopers were called to assist an emergency call about a traumatic injury outside of Stericycle at Lower River Street in the Town of Oneonta at around 6 a.m.

Investigators say 68 year old John Murphy of Oneonta had apparently tried to walk between a tractor trailer and a loading dock, unaware that the vehicle was backing up.

Murphy sustained fatal injuries when he was pinned between the truck and the loading dock.  He died at the scene

The Otsego County Coroner has ruled the death was caused by severe trauma.

The Occupational Safety and Health administration is also investigating.

Stericycle is based in Lake Forest, Illinois.  The company says it specializes in medical and pharmaceutical waste management.
