Women Face Felony Charges in Cortland Walmart Shoplifting

A Cortland woman and Lafayette woman are charged with felony falsifying business records and other counts following a report of two women shoplifting at the Cortlandville Walmart.

27 year old Ashley Franklin of Layfayette and 26 year old Kaylea Mendez of Cortland allegedly were found in possession of drugs after authorities investigated a report of the suspects stealing items then returning to the store to try to redeem them for cash.

Franklin is charged with felony falsifying business records as well as misdemeanor petit larceny and a violation charge of unlawful possession of marijuana.

Mendez is charged with Felony falsifying business records, misdemeanor petit larceny, misdemeanor conspiracy, misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance and a violation count of having a drug not in its original container.
