A 22-year-old woman was seriously injured when she plunged about 20 feet from the roof of a building in downtown Binghamton.

Authorities say the incident was reported at about 2:25 p.m. May 14.  It happened behind 86 Hawley Street.

City fire medics and Superior Ambulance personnel tended to the woman, who fell to a blacktop surface.

Police said the woman, whose home address was in Syracuse, was conscious when she was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. She sustained a broken jaw and a broken arm.

Students wearing brightly-colored shirts in connection with the annual downtown Bar Crawl celebration gathered to discuss what happened in the parking lot near the building.

Red plastic cups littered the lot near a beer keg that sat next to the building.

Police said the incident appeared to have been an accident.

The incident happened just over an hour after Mayor Richard David encountered two graduating Binghamton University students on Court Street, congratulating them and urging them to celebrate safely.
