Pennsylvania State Police say roads were icy when a sport utility vehicle left Route 171 (State Street) near Towner Road in Great Bend Township at around 8 a.m. January 15, hit an embankment, rolled and hit a tree, leaving a Susquehanna County woman dead.

There were wide reports of black ice in the region as temperatures hovered at or below freezing.

The roof of the Kia Sorento, driven by 46 year old Cindy Westbrook of Susquehanna, was crushed in the crash and Westbrook was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say it's believed the vehicle may have been traveling too fast for conditions.

A one year old boy in the vehicle, who was strapped into a child safety seat survived the crash but was taken to Barns and Kasson Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
