Investigators say Kathleen Kilbury of Whitney Point was trapped in a Toyota Camry after the head-on collision on East Maine Road. The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the car was demolished when it slammed into a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle.

Kilbury was extricated from the wrecked car and taken to Wilson Medical Center, where she died a short time later.

Police say the driver of the SUV, 67-year-old Kenneth Avery of Vestal, was being treated at Wilson Medical Center for serious injuries.

Authorities say Kilbury died as the result of multiple traumatic injuries.

The sheriff's office crash reconstruction unit is investigating the collision.

Sheriff's deputies were assisted by fire departments from Maine, Union Center and West Corners. Ambulance crews from Maine and Campville also responded to the scene.
