About 1700 NYSEG customers in the southwest section of Vestal lost power at about 10:50 p.m. April 5 when a 2005 Ford SUV went off Route 26, just south of Sandy Drive.

Police say the vehicle driven by Wood slammed into a utility pole. The pole was snapped, pulling down electric lines and damaging another pole.

A 2001 Jeep SUV driven by a 60-year-old Vestal man struck the downed power lines. Investigators say he was not hurt.

Police say Wood was transported to a hospital by private vehicle after she left the crash scene. The extent of her injuries was not reported.

NYSEG crews restored power to some customers before noon.

A section of Route 26 was closed while utility workers were making repairs. Hundreds of drivers were detoured while the work was in progress.
